Duluth Police Chief Scott Lyons will be a special guest story reader at Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Duluth on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m. as part of the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Alumni Association's day-long book fair. UMD's mascot "Champ" and story book character "Clifford, the Big Red Dog" will also be on hand. A portion of the day's sales will be donated by Barnes & Noble for the purchase of books for the UMD Darland Connection tutoring program.
Saturday's event is part of UMD Alumni Association's week-long book drive (March 4-9). During that week, books can be purchased at Barnes & Noble at a 10% discount and donated to the UMD Darland Connection tutoring program. The donated books will then be given to children in Duluth's MacArthur Elementary School (kindergarten through second grade). The goal is to collect 234 books--one for each child in the tutoring program. Simon and Schuster publishing company will also make a donation of books.
Everyone (children, parents, grandparents and friends) is cordially invited to purchase a book (or books) for donation, and to attend Saturday's 11 a.m. story reading.
