University of Minnesota Regent Emeritus Erwin Goldfine and Beverly Goldfine recently hosted a luncheon to announce and honor recipients of the 2001-2002 Beverly and Erwin Goldfine Scholarship for Academic Excellence. A total of 66 UMD students have been awarded Goldfine Scholarships since its inception in 1987. The awards this year were $1,500 each.
The Beverly and Erwin Goldfine Scholarship for Academic Excellence was established at UMD through gifts by the Goldfine family, friends and business associates to help UMD challenge students to pursue academic excellence, and to reward outstanding students for their academic achievement.
Erwin Goldfine was a member of the University Board of Regents from 1975 to 1987, and was a former member and chair of the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Board. He was named to the Duluth Hall of Fame in 1991. Beverly Goldfine has been active in the Duluth community for many years.
