An exhibition of photographs by well-known Duluth photographer Karl Jaros will open Tuesday, September 11 in the UMD Tweed Museum of Art Lecture Gallery and will run through October 14.
Karl Jaros has had a long and successful career as an award-winning photojournalist for the Duluth News-Tribune and Herald from 1953 to 1982. He received thirty-nine regional, state and national awards.
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. September 11 in the UMD Tweed Museum of Art, with a program at 4:30 p.m. The event will celebrate the establishment of the Karl and Katharina Jaros Photography Fund to provide scholarships for UMD photography students. The public is invited.
The Katharina and Karl Jaros Photography Fund has been established by Barbara and Mihal Jaros and their children Helen, Rose, Monika, Hilda, Mike and Adam for their daughter-in-law and son, Katharina and Karl.
Karl studied photography at the Braunschweig Master School of Photography in Germany. Both were born in Bosnia. They have been active in helping immigrant families acclimate to the new country, as well as a variety other Duluth civic activities.
