The announcement was made today by Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin who said, "Senator Solon has been a strong advocate for UMD for more than 30 years. He is a loyal friend with vision, commitment and leadership who has helped guide UMD in its role of academic excellence and accessibility to all Minnesotans. We are enormously grateful for all that he has done, and we are very proud to honor him in this way."
Senator Solon is a 1958 graduate of UMD with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science. He was first elected to the Minnesota House in 1970 and to the Senate in 1972. He is currently serving his 9th term.
The 41,000 square foot Campus Center was opened in September 1995. It also is home to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
