Ranked Second in the Nation (tie) for "Best Undergraduate Engineering
Departments" in U.S. News & World Report 2001 Ratings
The UMD Department
of Chemical Engineering has been ranked second in the nation (tie) for Best Undergraduate
Chemical Engineering Departments (without PhD programs) by the 2001 U.S. News
& World Report rankings of "America's Best Colleges".
The entire UMD Engineering Program was ranked 51st in the nation (tie)
for Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs (without PhD programs).
UMD was ranked 12th in Best Midwestern Public Universities.
Dr. Richard Davis, head of the UMD Department of Chemical Engineering, said, "We are very proud and excited about our ranking, especially since our chemical engineering department at UMD is very young--only 15 years old. The strength of our department is a tribute to the quality of the faculty and the quality of the entire campus."
The UMD Department of Chemical Engineering has 150 students and five faculty members.
