Carol Bly's Appearance
Carol Bly to Speak at the UMD December 5
The UMD Library
presents a "Meet the Author" event featuring writer Carol Bly on Tuesday, December
5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the fourth floor Library Rotunda. Speaking on the
topic, "The Literature We Write from Bits of Our Lives," Carol Bly will share
some of her thoughts on the process of creative writing. Refreshments will be
served and there will be a book signing after the talk. This free event is being
presented as part of the UMD Spectrum Lecture Series. For more information call

Carol Bly has lectured and taught writing courses across the country including
at the Split Rock Summer Arts Program. She has also taught Ethics in Literature
at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and from 1998-1999 was Edelstein-Keller
Distinguished Writer there. Bly recently finished a new book of short stories
- My Bag of Rice: New and Collected Stories - which was published by
Milkweed Press earlier this year. Another book - The Smart Cave: Finding
New Ways to Write Creative Nonfiction - will be published next spring. She
was named "Favorite Woman Author for 2000" by the Minnesota Women's Press and
has received numerous awards for her writings.
The event is free, and the public is invited.
