The recital will highlight the life and music of Chopin. It will include historical perspectives and quotes from Chopin's contemporaries who considered Chopin "a many sided genius". Wegren will perform a program of selections from Chopin along with Wegren's original composition "Vignettes for Piano". He will also present a work by UMD Assistant Music Professor Justin Rubin.
Tom Wegren earned his PhD from Ohio State University. He went on to do his post doctorate study at the Paris Conservatoire and the Juilliard School.
Wegren has played solo recitals at Carnegie Hall and the St. Paul Civic Center. He has appeared as a guest soloist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Rochester Symphony, the Duluth/Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Pusan Symphony (Korea), and the Chicago Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Dr. Wegren's compositions have also been aired on Minnesota Public Radio and National Public Radio affiliates.
