Former University of Minnesota Regent Erwin Goldfine and Beverly Goldfine recently hosted a luncheon announcing and honoring recipients of the 1999-2000 Beverly and Erwin Goldfine Scholarship for Academic Excellence. To date a total of 56 UMD students have been awarded the scholarships. The awards this year were $1,500 each.
The Beverly and Erwin Goldfine Scholarship Fund for Academic Excellence was established at UMD in 1987 through gifts by the Goldfine family, friends and business associates to help UMD challenge students to pursue academic excellence, and to reward outstanding students for their academic achievement.
Erwin Goldfine was a member of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents from 1975 to 1987, and a former member and chair of the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Board. He was named to the Duluth Hall of Fame in 1991. Beverly Goldfine has been an active volunteer with the UMD Tweed Museum of Art and Duluth community affairs.
