Dr. Cogan will discuss the following topics: "The Importance of Mentoring", "What Makes a Mentoring Program Successful", and "How to Share Resources".
Dr. Cogan holds a PhD in Experimental/Social Psychology from the University of Vermont. In 1996 she was awarded the James Marshall Public Policy Fellowship from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI).
She organized the first federal Congressional briefing on eating disorders entitled "Dying to be Thin: The Prevention of Eating Disorders Through Research and Policy" which resulted in federal initiatives addressing eating disorders. She wrote the findings for the Eating Disorders Information and Education Act (H.R. 2006).
Dr. Cogan is currently an independent consultant for Research and Policy Analysis. Her major client is the Harvard Eating Disorder Clinic. She also works with educational institutions conducting program development and in-service training on topics including: creativity in the workplace, overcoming sexism in the workplace, and creating an environment that is safe for diverse student population.
Her recent focus on issues of mentoring has led her to conduct research on the "Qualities of Healthy Mentoring Relationships" and "Promoting Feminist Mentoring Across Generations and Career Paths". In 1999 she was nominated for the Raymond Fowler Outstanding Mentoring Award.
