Introduction toPhysician Assistant

Physician Assistant Education Program

The Physician Assistant profession has been in existence for more than 30 years. The profession began as an outgrowth of the medical corpsmen returning from the Vietnam War. It provided an opportunity for the corpsmen to put to use their advanced medical skills and provide health care access to populations that previously had been without health care.

The PA profession is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to provide health care to patients. Throughout the evolvement of the PA profession, PA's have maintained a clear focus on providing quality health care to populations in need, specifically targeting rural and urban underserved populations.

As a PA, I have found that my experience as a health care provider has afforded me the opportunity to meet many wonderful people and help them improve the quality of their life. The special relationship that a PA has with his or her supervising physician provides a wonderful opportunity for both providers to continue to learn and grow as the medical profession evolves and changes. The PA and physician work together as team members, using each other's strengths to enhance the health of their patients. I enjoy working as a member of a health care team and look forward to adding new team members to continue to improve the quality of health care rendered.
