Educational levels
among Registered Nurses are as varied as the settings in which they practice:
from the 2-year associate degree, the 3-year diploma, or the 4-year bachelors
degree.
In Minnesota, graduates of nursing programs are licensed as Registered
Nurses by the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Requirements include graduation
from an approved nursing program and passing the NCLEX examination. All
registered nurses in Minnesota are required to complete 30 hours of continuing
education units every two years.
Certification demonstrates expertise in a specialized area. Applicants
for certification must be RNs and have graduated from an accredited program.
Practice, and continuing education hours are required to maintain certification.
