My reasons for going into chiropractic
*The following story tells of how I settled onto these reasons* I began looking into chiropractic during my sophomore year in college. I was at a cross-roads in my life, not knowing which direction I wanted to go. I set up a meeting over Christmas break that year with my chiropractor Dr. James Hoyt. We went out for lunch one day and I asked him a bunch of questions about his profession. That is where my interest was sparked. I began checking heavily into the possibility that this may be what I want to do. After some research into it, I decided that chiropractic was a perfect fit for me. The reason for this is threefold. First, chiropractic is a relatively new field, but has shown it can weather the storm. It is a science that is becoming more mainstream from its "alternative" roots. The coursework required for a degree in chiropractic is very similar to that of most medical schools for the first couple of years. It will be challenging for me, but at the same time, I am interested in the material. Second, chiropractic offers great diversity within its ranks - not everyone comes out with the exact same training, it can be personalized! As stated in my proposal, I am interested a great deal in sports medicine and also acupuncture. I can do both within this field. The later phases of my training at Northwestern can be geared towards the sports medicine field. I can also pick up classes for my acupuncture certification, either while in school, or as continuing education courses later. Finally, chiropractic offers great flexibility for location. Chiropractic can be found in many places throughout the world. I like to travel and have always wondered what it would be like to live some place other than the US for awhile. I will be able to take my degree and go to the place of my choice and set up practice. These are the main reasons I decided to choose a career in chiropractic. They may not be what everyone looks for, but they gave me the answers I wanted and the drive that I needed.
