Former Students of Ted Pedersen

The following are all students who I have advised as MS students or Undergaduate Research Assistants at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and who have gone on to PhD or MS programs after finishing their MS degrees here.

PhD programs

Anna Martin (M.S. May 2022) Anna is a PhD student at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in the NLP group as of Fall 2022.
Saptarshi Sengupta (M.S. Summer 2019) Saptarshi is now a PhD student at Penn State as of Fall 2019.
Shuning Jin (B.S. May 2019) Shuning is a PhD student at Rutgers as of Fall 2020.
Swathi Vallabhajosyula (M.S. July 2018) Swathi is a PhD student in Computer Science at The Ohio State University as of Fall 2019.
Zhenduo Wang (M.S. May 2018 in Math/Stat, co-advised with Yang Li ) has been a PhD student at e University of Utah since Fall 2018.
Jon Rusert (M.S. May 2017) is a PhD student at the University of Iowa as of Fall 2017.
Yanbo Xu (M.S. July 2011 in Math/Stat, co advised with Kang James ) Yanbo is a PhD student at Carnegie-Mellon University in the Language Technologies Institute as of Fall 2012.
Dr. Varada Kolhatkar M.S. August 2009. PhD March 2015 from the University of Toronto in the Computer Science Department. Her advisor was Graeme Hirst.
Dr. Mahesh Joshi M.S. August 2006 [co-advised with Rich Maclin. PhD May 2013 from Carnegie Mellon University in the Language Technologies Institute. His advisors were William Cohen and Carolyn Rose. Mahesh will join eBay working as an Applied Researcher.
Dr. Anagha Kulkarni M.S. July 2006 and former Graduate Research Assistant. PhD May 2013 from Carnegie Mellon University in the Language Technologies Institute. Her advisor was Jamie Callan. Anagha has been an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at San Franciso State University since Fall 2013.
Dr. Bridget McInnes M.S. December 2004. Ph.D. September 2009 in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities). Her co-advisors were John Carlis and Ted Pedersen. Bridget was then a Computational Linguist at Securboration, and will start as an Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Fall 2014.
Dr. Saif Mohammad M.S. August 2003. Ph.D. January 2008 from the University Toronto in Computer Science. His advisor was Graeme Hirst. Saif is now a Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada.
Dr. Siddharth "Sid" Patwardhan M.S. August 2003. Ph.D. September 2009 from the University of Utah in the School of Computing. His advisor was Ellen Riloff. Sid is now a Senior Software Engineer at the IBM TJ Watson Research Lab working on the Deep QA Project.
Dr. Satanjeev "Bano" Banerjee M.S. December 2002 and former Graduate Research Assistant. PhD 2011 from Carnegie Mellon University Language Technologies Institute. His advisor was Alex Rudnicky. Bano is now at Twitter Research.

MS programs

Amruta Purandare M.S. August 2004 and former Graduate Research Assistant. Earned a second M.S. in August 2006 in Intelligent Systems at the University of Pittsburg.
Aditi Paluskar, M.S. November 2001. Earned a second M.S. from the University of Missouri-Rolla in Engineering Management in 2003.
