2025 RESEARCH PROGRAM IN COMBINATORICS AND GRAPH THEORY
Supported by Jane Street Capital, the U. S. National Science Foundation, Ray Sidney, and Eric Wepsic

The objective of the eight-week program is to provide an opportunity for nine
undergraduate students to learn firsthand the nature of research in mathematics.
The participants will conduct research on problems in combinatorics, and graph theory
under the guidance of the two program directors from UMD and Harvard and PhD candidates
in combinatorics from Princeton and Stanford, who are program alumni.

Dates: June 8 - July 31, 2025
Stipend: Stipend: $5000
Allowances: Travel up to $850 and free on-campus apartment housing.
Location: University of Minnesota Duluth
Deadline: February 14, 2025

Applicants will be selected on the basis of motivation, mathematical accomplishments, and projected
likely benefits to the participant and the program. International students who attend US schools are eligible.

The exact starting and ending dates as well as the length of stay are negotiable. There will be
organized social and recreational activities such as biking, rafting, and hiking. Sixteen to twenty
program alumni will be short-term visitors.

Applications must be submitted via http://www.mathprograms.org/

A complete application consists of the standard cover sheet (ignore current title/dates,
"highest degree/institution/dates"), two letters of recommendation; a CV (include citizenship status
and date of birth; a transcript (it need not be official) OR a list of all advanced math
courses with grades; a statement explaining your interest in combinatorics, number theory, and graph
theory, your long-term career plans, any experiences that especially qualify you for participation, your
current institution, and your expected date of graduation. If applicable, include information about your
performance in math competitions such as the USAMO and the Putnam. DO NOT INCLUDE COPIES
