Tweed Museum of Art announces book release, ceramics exhibition, and family program:
Following the success of a solo exhibition of Dave Lynas' art at the
Tweed Museum of Art in 2008, we are pleased to invite you to a
family-friendly event celebrating the first museum publication on the
artist's work, A Handful of Clay.
A beloved teacher, skilled potter, draftsman and designer, as well as a musician, gardener and avid build-it-yourselfer, Dave Lynas' creative spirit is enormous. Just as large is the generosity of his instruction in clay technique, from kids classes, to the Duluth Art Institute studio, to workshops for professionals. Dave Lynas' influence on the ceramic world fast becomes as powerful as that of his predecessor, Glen C. Nelson.
The Tweed Museum of Art is proud to display a selection of functional pottery, clay instruments, and pictorial tiles recently acquired from the artist. These works can be seen in the Balcony Gallery, along with selections from the Glenn C. Nelson Ceramics collection, and a recent gift of Chinese I-Hsing ceramic teapots, donated by Dr. Robert Poor, Professor of Art History, University of Minnesota, and his wife, Geraldine Schmitt.
Join us as we celebrate the region's legacy of ceramic art in this
unique program, November 8, 2009, 2-4pm.
