WHAT:       New Faculty Exhibition by Mariana Waisman

                    Artist’s Lecture: Tuesday, February 21st at Noon


Mariana Waisman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where she teaches courses in Typography and Interactive Design.  Waisman earned her undergraduate degree in Graphic Design at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, in Mendoza, Argentina, and a Master of Design degree from the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada.  In 1999, she received an award for her academic achievement from the Argentinean Federation of University Women.  She has received national recognition for developing identity programs and information systems designs for a variety of major clients while working as a graphic designer in the city and province of Mendoza, Argentina.  While in Canada, Waisman developed research in the area of music education at the elementary school level for the design of effective computer-based aids.  Mariana continues with design projects here at UMD, having designed the new website for Glensheen Historic Estate, a new promotional publication for the Department of Art and Design and the poster/brochure for the 2005/2006 Art and Design Lecture Series.  Mariana’s lecture will cover her design and academic activity as one influenced by her international education and experience.
