Karl Markgraf provides leadership to UMD International Programs and Services. This role oversees International Partnerships and Outreach, Study Abroad, and Global Engagement. He received his B.A. in German from the University of Oregon and his M.A. and Ph.D. in German Language and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has served both as university administrator and as faculty member in German. He's an active member of several international education organizations, and has published and presented at both national and international conferences and workshops in the fields of education abroad, service-learning abroad, international student recruitment, cross-cultural learning, international education administration, and related subjects.
Karl has lived and taught abroad and offers broad experience in all aspects of international education. He has traveled widely for both work and pleasure—and has a hard time picking a favorite place, but looks forward to continuing to explore our planet! As a lover of the great outdoors, some of his happiest moments abroad have been spent in rural communities and on safari.
