International Risk Management Services

Leading an experience abroad is both a challenging and rewarding experience. Successful and safe international experiences are a result of collaborative efforts between UMD’s various colleges, their respective departments, and the Study Abroad office.

Our staff is available to assist you and your students prepare for an experience abroad. We provide the required risk management support to undergraduate students and faculty as indicated by the UWide Student Travel & Education Abroad Health & Safety policy. Students pay a processing fee to cover these services. Additionally, information about University-wide resources and incident data on safety abroad can be found at GO SAFE.

Our office provides the required University of Minnesota items

  • Program Leader Risk Management Training
  • Undergraduate Student’s Application through Confirmation (Includes checklist documents: Release & Waiver, Online Orientation, Health Information, Emergency Contact, Confirmation of Participation)
  • Insurance
  • 24/7 Emergency Contact
  • General Handbook
  • Online Health & Safety Orientation

Complete these steps for risk management services

  1. Discuss your program plans with our office
  2. When appropriate, consider using one of our UMD approved affiliate providers to help facilitate your program (details below)
  3. One month before departure, complete the International Risk Management Services Agreement form
