Post-Secondary Enrollment Option
You are here
The Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Act (PSEOA) allows eligible juniors and seniors in Minnesota schools to register for postsecondary course work with tuition, books, and some fees paid by the Minnesota Department of Education. The Minnesota Legislature created Post-Secondary Enrollment Options programs in 1985 to promote rigorous course taking and improve student transitions to postsecondary education. Students who have completed the 11th grade are eligible for two semesters of PSEO. Students who have completed the12th grade are not eligible for this program.
How it works
The priority of the UMD PSEO program is to place students in UMD Liberal Education courses that fill both UMD Liberal Education and Minnesota high school graduation requirements. PSEO students who intend to pursue a degree or program at UMD should investigate degree course plans and requirements websites and discuss these plans with the PSEO counselor. The priority, however will always be to fill high school requirements before considering degree requirements.
Availability of UMD courses
Because PSEO students register for classes after all other UMD students have registered, we can't guarantee a seat will be available in any course. UMD science and math courses fill quickly and seating is limited for PSEO students.
Transferring UMD PSEO credits to other schools and universities
Since every college and university has its own majors, programs, and requirements, we are not able to guarantee how UMD credits will transfer to satisfy another university's program requirements. Some schools do not accept PSEO credits. Please contact the college or university you plan to attend for specific information about how UMD credits will transfer to their school. Students should be actively investigating programs and majors by visiting pertinent college or university websites for information.
UMD does not offer an online PSEO program
UMD does not offer many online courses that fill high school graduation requirements, therefore, PSEO students are limited to registration in one online course per term with permission from the PSEO adviser.
