The Office for Students in Transition (SIT) provides many programs and services designed to help first year students with their transition into the UMD community. We work with students to help them achieve academic, social and personal success.

If you have a question or concern, and you do not know where else to go, stop by our office, give us a call or send us an email. We will answer your question, address your concern, or point you to the right person or office who can!

Advisement & Registration

Starting at UMD? This mandatory program will help you register for your first semester of classes and start off your UMD education on the right foot.

Bulldog Welcome Week

This event begins with a mandatory program for new first year students over Labor Day weekend. Students living in on-campus housing should plan to move-in on the Thursday prior to Labor Day.

UMD Seminar (SSP 1000)

This course was developed to help new first year students with their transition into the UMD community. Topics addressed in this course include UMD technology, time management, study strategies, career/major exploration, academic planning, electronic learning portfolio development and other topics that help freshmen succeed academically, personally and socially.
