The Office for Students in Transition (SIT) office provides many programs and services designed to help first year students with their transition into the UMD community. We work with students to help them achieve academic, social and personal success.
Starting at UMD? This mandatory program will help you register for your first semester of classes and start off your UMD education on the right foot.
This event begins with a mandatory program for new first year students over Labor Day weekend. Students living in on-campus housing should plan to move-in on the Thursday prior to Labor Day.
This course was developed to help new first year students with their transition into the UMD community. Topics addressed in this course include UMD technology, time management, study strategies, career/major exploration, academic planning, electronic learning portfolio development and other topics that help freshmen succeed academically, personally and socially.
If you have a question or concern, and you do not know where else to go, stop by our office, give us a call or send us an email. We will answer your question, address your concern, or point you to the right person or office who can!
The New Student Guide is handed out at Advisement & Registration; this guide answers common questions for new UMD students and provides campus contact information.
Many students are surprised by the academic differences between high school and college. Other students experience transition issues related to personal and social adjustment.
Welcome to UMD!
All students are welcome to come to our office, ask a question, or just stop by to say hello!
