Mission Statement

The Office for Students in Transition supports the academic, social and personal transitions of all undergraduate students, with a particular focus on high school, first-year, transfer and non-traditional students.

We work collaboratively with students, parents and families to develop the connections, tools and resources to foster engaged learning and participation in a diverse world.

If you have a question or concern, and you do not know where else to go, stop by 42 Solon Campus Center. We will answer your questions, address your concerns, or point you to the right person or office that can!

Lisa oversees the department and its programs. She works on program assessment and learning outcomes in addition to department supervision. She is happy to assist any student or parent with questions about new student transitions.
Jen Doebler Jen Doebler
Coordinator, Orientation Programs
Jen coordinates the first two parts of the UMD new student orientation program: Advisement & Registration and Bulldog Welcome Week. In this role she oversees programs that help new students make a successful academic, social, and personal transition to UMD.

Coordinator, Transfer Services Program
Tory serves as a primary contact for transfer students at UMD. She coordinates peer to peer walk-in services for transfer students in the SIT office. Please call Tory or drop by her office if you are a current transfer student with questions or are thinking about transferring to UMD.
Barbara Perushek Barbara Perushek
Coordinator, CITS Community Program
Barb directs the College in the Schools (CITS) program where qualified high school juniors and seniors take UMD courses at their high school. She oversees the UMD CITS teacher approval process, assists with their training, and organizes student campus visits. Barb collaborates with UMD faculty liasions who facilitate professional development workshops and conduct site visits with CITS high school teaching specialists. She advocates for the CITS program and engages in problem-solving with all stake-holders.
Suzan Gonia Suzan Gonia
Coordinator, PSEO Program
Suzan manages the Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program at UMD. This program allows qualifying high school juniors and seniors to take UMD courses on campus for both high school and college credit. Many current and former UMD students began their college careers by participating in the PSEO program. Suzan is happy to provide information about the program to anyone interested.

Advisor and Career Counselor, Non-Degree and Non-Traditional
Nancy coordinates and supervises the Career Exploration and Education (CNED) courses at UMD. She serves as a primary contact for non-degree seeking and non-traditional students at UMD. She provides academic advising and career counseling services for students.
