Many students of the Department of Art & Design have a senior exhibition of their artwork in the Tweed Student Gallery as a requirement for graduation. Through exhibitions or alternative public presentations, students become familiar with the professional expectations of museums, galleries, and other public venues.
The Juried Student Show in the spring is an annual tradition and treat wherein ambitious imaginations abound and achievements are honored as Art & Design students show their creations in ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, digital design, installation, video, and more. The Department of Art & Design website includes details about exhibition submission deadlines and the annual contest to design the Show poster.
The department and the Tweed Museum of Art also collaborate each year on an Visual Culture Lecture Series that brings artists and designers to UMD to speak about their work and experience. These events are held in the Bohannon Hall room 90 unless otherwise noted.
