August 24, 2016

The UMD Police Department is investigating a case of Criminal Sexual Conduct that occurred on-campus on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at approximately 10:00pm. While walking outside between Griggs Hall and Oakland Apartments, two female students were approached by two males who persistently tried to convince them to accompany them to an on-campus dorm room. The females declined and attempted to walk away from the males. At that time, one of the males repeatedly grabbed the buttocks of one of the females and continued to do so after he was told by the female to stop. When the females approached a passerby for help, the males left the area.

The males involved in this matter have not been identified. They are described by the victim as follows:

  1. White male
    Late teens to early 20s
    Medium-length brown or black hair
    White t-shirt and blue shorts

  2. Black male
    Late teens to early 20s
    Short black hair
Black v-neck t-shirt and camouflage cargo shorts

UMDPD urges students, employees, and visitors to consider safety a collective effort:

  • Report crimes and suspicious activity immediately by calling 911
  • Keep your cellphone accessible
  • Travel in groups and always let a friend or family member know where you are going
  • Be a good neighbor; watch out for others and report activity if they cannot
  • Police, Fire Department, and Ambulance service are available at UMD, 24 hours per day; simply call 911
