Health Benefits

All students who are;

  1. admitted to a degree program and
  2. registered for six or more credits per semester that count toward the automatic assessment of the Student Services Fee

are required by the University of Minnesota to have health plan coverage. If you do not have health insurance, you can purchase the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan from the Office of Student Health Benefits. If you have your own health insurance, you have the opportunity to waive the Student Health Benefit Plan in the . Please have your insurance card handy.

Eligible students who do not appropriately waive the Student Health Benefit Plan per established guidelines will be automatically enrolled in the plan and billed for the entire semester. Please visit to determine if your insurance meets criteria for a waiver.
