Commencement Participation Policy

Students will be allowed to participate in spring commencement ceremonies if they can demonstrate that they can meet all requirements for graduation through registration for classes any time up to and including the fall semester following spring commencement ceremonies (within 18 credits of completion).

Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Office of the Registrar and will be granted only for very unusual and compelling reasons.

Ceremony Date & Times

2015 University of Minnesota Duluth Undergraduate Ceremony
The 2015 Undergraduate Commencement will include 2 separate ceremonies on Saturday, May 16, 2015 held at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).

Morning Graduation Ceremony - begins at 10:00AM
Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE)
Swenson College of Science and Engineering (SCSE)

Afternoon Graduation Ceremony - begins at 3:00PM
College of Education and Human Services Professions (CEHSP)
College of Liberal Arts (CLA)
School of Fine Arts (SFA)

FAQ

What if I am earning dual degrees?
If you are graduating with more than one degree, from more than one college (scheduled in different ceremonies) you may participate in your preferred ceremony, or may participate in both ceremonies.
Do I have the option of attending either Ceremony?
Graduates must attend the ceremony specified for their College/School.
Are honors listed in the program?
Yes, if a student is receiving either Latin, Departmental or University Honors it is noted in the program.
Are tickets needed?
No, tickets are no longer required. All guests of the graduates are welcome.
What do graduates need to do on commencement day?
**Information tentative and subject to change.**

Morning Graduation Ceremony - Students

College of Education and Human Services Professions (CEHSP), College of Liberal Arts (CLA), and School of Fine Arts (SFA)

  • 8:30 AM arrive at Pioneer Hall, DECC
  • All students pick up their name cards
  • All student line up for the commencement procession
  • Students receiving honors: pick up Latin Honors medallions and/or Departmental and/or UMD Honors cords.

Afternoon Graduation Ceremony - Students

Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) and Swenson College of Science and Engineering (SCSE)

  • 1:30 PM arrive at Pioneer Hall, DECC
  • All students pick up their name cards
  • All student line up for the commencement procession
  • Students receiving honors: pick up Latin Honors medallions and/or Departmental and/or UMD Honors cords.
