UMD Research Presented at Regional Economic Indicators Forum

DULUTH, MN — Updated results of a long-term economic research study of the Northland will be unveiled at the second Regional Economic Indicators Forum (REIF) on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. The breakfast event starts at 7 a.m. at the DECC Lake Superior Ballroom. Registration is online.

The REIF study focuses on economic trends in a 15-county region of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Results will continuously build a base of information and provide pertinent data that will measure the progress of the economy and spur new ideas for economic growth and prosperity. Research is being conducted by the College of St. Scholastica, University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), and University of Wisconsin—Superior (UWS). The Bureau of Business and Economic Research from the Labovitz School of Business and Economics is conducting the research on behalf of UMD.

The project is a unified regional effort by economists and student researchers at College of St. Scholastica, UMD, and UWS. It is made possible through the support of the National Bank of Commerce and governed by an advisory committee that includes:

  • College of St. Scholastica
  • University of Minnesota Duluth
  • University of Wisconsin—Superior
  • Northeast Minnesota's Small Business Development Center
  • Wisconsin Small Business Development Center at UW—Superior
  • APEX
  • National Bank of Commerce

Keynote speakers at the event are Andi Egbert, assistant director at the MN Department of Administration, State Demographers Office and David Egan-Roberston, University of Wisconsin—Madison Applied Population Laboratory, followed by presentations by economic student researchers on their research findings to date. These student teams are led by a team of economic researchers from the College of St. Scholastica, University of Minnesota Duluth, and UW—Superior.
