2014 Sigurd Olson Lecture “Yellowstone: More Valuable Than Gold”

DULUTH, MN – The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) will host the Sigurd Olson Lecture Series on Thurs., Apr. 10, 2014 from noon–1 pm in the Kathryn A. Martin Library 4th Floor Rotunda. Mike Clark, who recently retired as the executive director of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, will present “Yellowstone: More Valuable Than Gold.” This event is free and open to the public.

Clark’s talk will focus on the Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s efforts to halt mining adjacent to Yellowstone, their organizational efforts, the challenges of protecting public lands, and how public lands provide the economic engine for many rural areas adjacent to protected public lands and wilderness areas. Clark has 45 years of experience working with rural communities throughout the U.S. and has been involved with numerous nonprofits.

Sigurd F. Olson (1899–1982) was an American conservationist. He wrote nine books, his most famous being The Singing Wilderness. The Sigurd Olson Lecture Series was inaugurated in 1999 and highlights current natural resource topics presented by national leaders in the conservation community.
