Minnesota Power Foundation and Hallett Dock Company were recognized for 25 years of continuous support of University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) engineering programs at the UMD Engineering/Industry Scholarship Banquet on October 21, 2013 in Duluth. The two companies received recognition as Swenson College of Science and Engineering Honor Society members because of their service, support, performance, and passion for education in the fields of science and engineering and affiliated professions. This event also recognized 71 scholarships totaling over $135,000 in awards.

The event was established in 1989 to highlight the importance of strong ties between UMD’s engineering programs and the business and industrial community. At the first banquet in 1989, 24 scholarships were awarded. In 1989 UMD's engineering undergraduate student enrollment was 286. It is now 1160. This year, 28 corporate partners provided funding for engineering scholarships, and 17 endowed scholarships support engineering students at UMD.

Steve Kossett, scholarship recipient from 1989 and Gerald Ostroski, retired professional engineer and member of the 1989 committee were two of the guest speakers at the event.
