UMD Athletic Director Search Underway

DULUTH, MN — The University of Minnesota Duluth announced today that the search for a Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (Athletic Director) is now underway.

"We recognize that there is strong community interest in the selection of UMD's next athletic director, and we are conducting a thorough national search to find the best individual to take our tradition of excellence in athletics and academics to the next level. Professor Vince Magnuson, former Vice Chancellor for Academic Administration at UMD, has agreed to serve as chairman of a search committee composed of student athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and alumni," said UMD Chancellor Lendley "Lynn" Black.

The athletic director is responsible for supervising all head coaches, staff, and administrative personnel; developing and administering the annual budget for the department; strategic planning; fund raising; organizing the use of athletic facilities and demonstrating a commitment to diversity in recruitment and retention of coaches, staff, and student athletes; and ensuring the department's compliance with Title IX.

With a focus on academic performance, student development, and successful athletic programs, the successful candidate must provide strong leadership to foster the continued national prominence of UMD intercollegiate athletics and to promote new levels of excellence.

A complete job description, including required and preferred qualifications and specific duties, may be found online at www.d.umn.edu/chancellor/athleticdirectorsearch/.
