UMD to Welcome Freshmen at Student Move-in Day

More than 2,000 freshmen will be welcomed to UMD at Student Move-In Day on Thursday, August 29. First-year students will move into UMD dorms from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with the help of the Chancellor's Welcome Team and student volunteers.

Chancellor Lendley "Lynn" Black, Vice Chancellor for Student Life Lisa Erwin, and Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Andrea Schokker will be available for interviews from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in front of Lake Superior Hall. Vehicles will be unloaded here and at Griggs Hall. Food tents and KUMD will be set up for families to enjoy at "Griggs Beach," an area behind Lake Superior Hall.

UMD student groups will be out in force to greet students. "We want to demonstrate the friendly and positive community of UMD to new students as they move in," says UMD senior Hannah Maertz, an intern for the UMD Women's Resource Action Center.

UMD anticipates fall 2013 total enrollment of approximately 11,000 students with the arrival of 2,025 new freshman and 545 transfer students this week. Official enrollment numbers will be based on data collected on the 10th day of classes. This year, 94% of new freshman have opted to live in on-campus housing.

Chancellor Black will formally welcome students at convocation at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 30 in UMD's Romano Gym. A pep rally showcasing UMD's athletes and marching band follows the convocation.
