25th Anniversary of the UMD Alworth Institute
UMD celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Alworth Institute this year. To commemorate the milestone, author and correspondent for NPR and PBS, T.R. Reid, will present his lecture: "One Shoulder, Ten Countries: A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper and Fairer Health Care" on Wednesday, September 26 from 7 pm - 9 pm in Bohannon Hall 90 at UMD.
The event is co-sponsored by the Minnesota Medical School - Duluth and the UMD College of Liberal Arts.
"T.R. Reid will start the program with a comprehensive look at the healthcare systems of other advanced democracies across the globe so that we might assess the state of and possibilities for the provision of health care in the U.S.," said Cindy Christian of the Royal D. Alworth, Jr. Institute for International Studies. "This is a major event that highlights the international mission of the Institute and celebrates our years of public service to the University and the community."
Over the last 25 years, the Alworth Institute has combined the wishes of the Alworth Family to furnish international programs with the university's aims to merge learning with international education.
Copies of Reid's book, "Healing America," will be available for sale and signing at the event.
