UMD Mock Trial Team Advances to
National Championship Tournament
March 25-27

After a qualifying win in the February 11-13 Regional Tournament at the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS), the UMD Mock Trial team has further advanced to compete in the Opening Round National Championship set for March 25-27 at the Ramsey County Courthouse in St. Paul, Minn.

At the UWS Regional Tournament, UMD Students Earned Two Awards:

Josselyn Hill, UMD College of Liberal Arts
for Outstanding Witness

Ryan Lyk, UMD College of Liberal Arts
for Outstanding Attorney

At the National Championship Tournament, the UMD team will compete against 24 other regional teams from seven states.

To make the National Competition even more challenging, the AMTA modified the case in February. This was the third official revision of the mock legal case this year. The changes significantly alter the approach for both the plaintiff and the defense cases.

Mock trial simulates actual trial litigation and requires thorough preparation, composure and nimble thinking. Students on each team function as attorneys and witnesses who litigate a case prepared by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) for use in competition throughout the nation.
