UMD Lacrosse Club Team
to Play Two NCAA Division I Teams on
"Lacrosse Day in Minnesota"
October 11

The UMD Lacrosse team (one of the nation's top lacrosse club squads) will play exhibition games against two NCAA Division I lacrosse programs, the University of Notre Dame and the United States Military Academy, on October 11 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota. In the past 15 years victorious UMD Lacrosse team has competed in the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League, winning 11 conference championships.

Between the two UMD games the University of Notre Dame and the United States Military Academy will face off in the first-ever NCAA Division I lacrosse game played in the state of Minnesota, at 12noon.

The three games are part of the "Lacrosse Day in Minnesota" proclaimed by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty for October 11.

Lacrosse has been a very successful club sport at UMD since its inception in 1992. The UMD team has won 11 conference championships in 15 years of conference play in the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League. Rob Graff, a Minneapolis attorney, has been the head coach of the UMD program since 1993, commuting from Minneapolis to coach the team.

In the state of Minnesota, 39 high schools and 11 colleges participate in the game of lacrosse, one of the oldest sports in North America. The sport is known to Native American's as "The Creator's Game," often played to resolve conflicts, heal the sick, and develop strong warriors.
