UMD College of Liberal Arts Student Affairs and Advising Center has received the 2007 Outstanding Institutional Advising Program Award from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

The UMD program earned the national recognition for its efforts and initiatives in academic advising. It was selected as one of two programs to be honored in nationwide competition this year.

The award will be presented during the 2007 NACADA National Conference, held in Baltimore, Maryland in October.

UMD College of Liberal Arts Student Affairs and Advising Center's mission is to enhance the student experience by supplying the guidance, information, and education necessary to help students participate in CLA and UMD as confident, independent learners. The Center contributes to student success primarily by:

• Assisting students pursuing majors and minors within the College of Liberal Arts.
• Collaborating with and aiding faculty academic advisors.
• Supporting undecided students in their transition to college and the academic major exploration process.

National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)
The over 9,000 NACADA members consist of faculty, professional advisors, administrators, counselors, and others in academic and student affairs concerned with the intellectual, personal, and vocational needs of students. The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students. Each year since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising.
