UMD Presents "Techfest 2005"
Showcasing Latest Technologies


Public Cordially invited

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) will present "UMD Techfest 2005" on Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kirby Student Center Ballroom. Faculty, staff, and students will showcase the latest and greatest technologies used at UMD.

The annual event will highlight important advances in technology and student learning at UMD. Some examples include:

* The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will present "Intelligent Stethoscope." This artificial intelligence system allows recognition of heart disorders using frequency analysis of heart sounds. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will also demonstrate mobile robots.

* The Department of Information Technology Systems and Services will demonstrate an array of newest technologies. Included is the new multimedia hub, which allows students to do video editing for class projects. The new Student Technology Assistance Center helps meet the academic and personal technology learning needs and goals of UMD students.

* The Natural Resources Research Institute will demonstrate GPS technology in field projects to track Canadian lynx.

"UMD Techfest 2005 "is free and open to the public. T-shirts and door prizes
will be given away. Refreshments will be provided.
