UMD Graduate Program Commencement Ceremonies
to be held May 15


185 to Receive Graduate Degrees

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) will hold its Graduate Program Commencement ceremonies on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. in the UMD Romano Gymnasium. Graduate degrees will be conferred on 185 candidates. Featured speaker for the event will be Professor Thomas B. Duff, head of the Department of Finance and Management Information Sciences in the UMD School of Business and Economics.

Professor Duff has been a UMD faculty member since 1975. For nine years he served as director of the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program, and also served as acting dean and associate dean of the UMD School of Business and Economics.

Dr. Duff has been actively involved in leadership roles of several national organizations including the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, the Minnesota Business Educators, Inc., the North Central Business Education Association, and the National Association for Business Teacher Education.

He has received many awards including the 1982 National Federation of Independent Business/National Education Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Teaching of Business Principles and Economics, and the 1985-86 Teacher of the Year in the School of Business and Economics. In 1977 he received the Robert E. Slaughter Research Award in Business and Office Education, a national award recognizing outstanding contributions to the advancement of business and office education through research.

Dr. Duff is retiring this June. He is esteemed for his concern for students and for his generous use of his time to work with them.
