Nationally recognized expert Dr. Kevin T. Leicht will speak on the topic, "The Future of Affirmative Action" Friday, February 7 at 2 p.m. in the UMD Weber Music Hall. The talk will focus on core issues of the national affirmative action debate. The topic is of high interest since the recent decision of the Supreme Court to review the admissions policies of the University of Michigan Law School.

Dr. Leicht, a Professor of Sociology from the University of Iowa has produced groundbreaking work on "The Future of Affirmative Action," a presentation he originally made at the American Sociological Association. He has also received a Ford Foundation grant to study "Texas College Enrollments Before and After Hopwood." Dr. Leicht is a full professor in the department of Sociology at the University of Iowa. His research areas include Social Stratification, Political Economy, Complex Organizations and The Sociology of Work.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the presentation.

Dr. Leicht's talk is co-sponsored by the Commission on Human Diversity, the Commission on Women, Equity Education Services, the Women's Resource and Action Center, the Department of Sociology-Anthropology, the Department of Women's Studies and the Office of Equal Opportunity.
