UMD Students Ship 48 Boxes of School Supplies to Bosnia

UMD Student Sgt. Kris Rosendahl Brings an Early Christmas to Children with the Help of Fellow Students

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) secondary education student Kris Rosendahl is currently serving as a sergeant in the National Guard in Bosnia. Part of his job entails working with the schools in the area, most of which have no supplies and still show the effects of war.

Recently, Kris contacted his former UMD academic advisor Lisa Reeves, to see if there was anyone he could contact to get some school supplies sent to him for the children. The response from UMD students, faculty, and community members was overwhelming.

Betsy Albert-Peacock, instructor in the Department of Education, took the challenge to heart. Her UMD students collected supplies, earned money, packed boxes and loaded trucks. When all was said and done, there were 48 boxes of school supplies and nearly $600 sent over to Kris. He responded, saying, "I am overcome with pride." He added, "Every time I am asked where I get all of my stuff, I say, 'My fellow students up at UMD care enough about the word around them to give me a hand!'"
