UMD Honors Senator Sam Solon with Dedication of the Solon Campus Center
Ceremonies Set for August 15
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) will honor Minnesota State Senator Sam Solon with the dedication of the Solon Campus Center on Wednesday, August 15 at 11:30 a.m in front of the Campus Center. The public is cordially invited to the ceremony.
The announcement was made today by Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin who said, "Senator Solon has been a strong advocate for UMD for more than 30 years. He is a loyal friend with vision, commitment and leadership who has helped guide UMD in its role of academic excellence and accessibility to all Minnesotans. We are enormously grateful for all that he has done, and we are very proud to honor him in this way."
Senator Solon is a 1958 graduate of UMD with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science. He was first elected to the Minnesota House in 1970 and to the Senate in 1972. He is currently serving his 9th term.
The 41,000 square foot Campus Center was opened in September 1995. It serves as the central entry point to the UMD campus and houses the majority of student services programs including the Office of Admissions, Career Services, Financial Aid, Registrar, Multi Cultural Resource Centers, Advisement Coordination Center, Tutoring Center and Supportive Services Program, in addition to classrooms, computer labs and conference rooms. It also is home to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
The Campus Center is located adjacent to (and behind) the Darland Administration Building, just off College Street. Parking is available in the Darland Building parking lot. See attached map.
