UMD Hosts Graphic Design Presentation
October 27 at 11 a.m.

UMD Department of Art will host a graphic design presentation entitled "Design Dialog: The Remix," featuring Ellen Lupton and Amy Franceschini October 27 at 11 a.m. in the Tweed Museum of Art Lecture Gallery. "Design Dialog" is part of a year's programming in graphic and interactive design jointly produced by the University of Minnesota campuses in Duluth and the Twin Cities. Both UMD and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities offer studio-oriented Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees.

Ellen Lupton is adjunct curator of contemporary design at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City, and co-curator of the recent National Design Triennial exhibition. Along with her husband Abbott Miller, she is co-chair of the graphic design program at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore. Lupton has authored and designed numerous books on various design subjects.

Amy Franceschini is the founder of Futurefarmers, a San Francisco-based new media construct providing print and electronic design solutions to clients internationally. Franceschini's experimental projects have been shown in Germany, Holland, and Japan, and her work on the www.atlasmagazine.com website was included in Cooper-Hewitt's 1996 "Mixing Messages" exhibition.

Following the lecture there will be a reception and light lunch served in the new UMD Library Rotunda Room (4th floor). Admission is free.
