UMD Professor Emeritus Honored for Contributions to the Study of Lake Superior

John Green, Professor Emeritus, UMD Department of Geological Sciences, was awarded the Goldich Medal at the 46th annual meeting of the Institute on Lake Superior Geology held in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada May 8 -12. The prestigious award is given annually to a geologist for outstanding contributions to the geology of the Lake Superior region.

Professor Green has been carrying out geologic mapping and research on the Lake Superior area since 1962. His work has focused on understanding the origins of the ancient volcanic rocks of the area.

The Institute is an international organization involving geoscientists from government, academe, and industry in Ontario, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan who are professionally concerned with the geology and resources of the Lake Superior Region.
