Wins "Best Book of 1999" Award
"Talking Rocks", a book co-authored by Ronald Morton, UMD Department of Geological Sciences professor and Carl Gawboy , retired associate professor at the College of St Scholastica, published by Pfeifer-Hamilton Publishers of Duluth, was named "Best Book of 1999" by the Midwest Independent Publishers Association at the 10th Annual Midwest Book Achievement Awards.
The book also received first place in the category of Environmental Books.
Donald Tubesing, publisher of Pfeifer-Hamilton, said of the book, "This is a very innovative and risky book. It is a courageous effort that combines the scientific and Native American tradition, and explores the common ground between their different points of view".
