African American Student Programs


The AASP is responsible for developing and implementing services that support the personal and intellectual development of African and African American students. AASP works in conjunction with UMD departments, staff, and faculty to recruit, retain, and graduate African and African American students. AASP also coordinates campus-wide efforts to increase understanding of African and African American issues both within and outside the University.

Black Student Association (BSA)

BSA helps unite students of African, African American, and Caribbean descent and serves as a link to the greater Black community in Duluth and surrounding areas. It increases awareness and appreciation for Black history and works as a unified force toward enhancing the conditions and environment for Black students on campus.
