Group Study Rooms: Change in policies for Spring 2014
A Group Study Room
Checkout of group study rooms is temporarily occurring on a first-come, first-served, no-renewals basis until we launch a new online booking service. Come to the circulation desk, first floor, to request a room.
All University of Minnesota libraries migrated to a new operating system called Alma in December 2013. Alma was chosen by the University for many reasons, including the fact that it is cloud-based and better integrates library functions and workflows. These benefits were deemed to outweigh the consequences of the system being very new. Additional features are being developed for the University of Minnesota, booking being one of them.
Unfortunately, just weeks before the new system went live, we learned that booking would not be available in a useful manner for our patrons. Given the short timeline, the Kathryn A. Martin Library enacted a temporary first-come, first-served, no-renewals policy for group study rooms. This allows the library to provide efficient and equitable access to study rooms while Alma continues to undergo development. The circulation desk does have 15 pagers, so if a room isn't immediately available, you can take a pager and be notified when a room is ready for your use.
