ABSTRACT SUMMARY OF COLLECTION
The United Northern Sportsmen, a Duluth based conservation group, was organized on September 18, 1945. It was concerned itself with the conservation of wildlife, forests, waters, and other natural resources, and the promotion of local conservation projects.
The bulk of these records are from the files of the Study Committee of the United Northern Sportsmen. This collection contains substantial information collected by the Study Committee on the following: Conservation; United Northern Sportsmen; Boundary Waters Canoe Area; predators and predator control; and Voyageurs National Park. The collection includes correspondence, government reports, and newspaper clippings. For additional information, see inventory.

The United Northern Sportsmen was organized on September 18, 1945. It has concerned itself with the conservation of wildlife, forests, waters, and other natural resources, and the promotion of local conservation projects such as conservation education, soil conservation, forest fire prevention, cleaning up our lakes, rivers and streams, restocking of fish and game, and safety in hunting,
fishing, and other outdoor activities. The United Northern Sportsmen
has affiliated with the Minnesota Conservation Federation which in
turn is an affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation.
The collection is arranged into three series:

The club historian's files include newspaper clippings, club correspondence, reports, circulars, club minutes, committee minutes, and photographs. The subject files include copies of records from organizations with which the United Northern Sportsmen and/or its officers were involved, newspaper clippings, reports, circulars, position papers, correspondence.
The bulk of these records were held by Ed Pearson, acting in his capacity as chairman of the United Northern Sportsmen's Study Committee. Mr. Pearson served as chairman of this important committee from 1962 to 1972. The United Northern Sportsmen Records were donated to the Northeast Minnesota Historical Center on May 23, 1977.
