Borrowing Privileges for UMD Students

Please bring items for checkout to the Circulation desk, located on the first floor of the Library. Your U Card is your borrowing card, but you may use any photo ID to check out materials.

For your convenience, we will automatically renew loans of one week or longer until until items reach their end renewal date. Regular books checked out to a UMD student reach their end renewal date six months after checkout. Best Sellers reach their end date eight weeks after checkout. You must return materials by the final due date or be subject to overdue fines.

Renewal is prevented when another user requests an item you have checked out. Materials loaned for shorter terms, such as media, Reserve items, and study rooms, do not have the autorenewal feature.

Check "My Account"

You may check your account and renew materials in the following ways: (1) in person at the Circulation desk, (2) by calling 218-726-6120 during hours when the library is open, and (3) online by using "My Account." You must have a UMD Internet username and password to renew materials online.

To renew items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan, log in to your ILLiad account.

The length of time during which an item may be renewed is limited. See a Circulation staff member if you encounter any difficulty renewing materials.

If books or journals become more than 30 days overdue, you will be billed a replacement charge of $100 plus a processing fee of $15. Items on short-term loanwill be billed as lost even before they become 30 days overdue.

For information about fines, see Paying Fines and Fees.
