Some time between 1839 and 1867, the firm of G. R. Collis and Co., of Birmingham, England, struck a series of sixty medallions depicting Biblical events. On the reverse of each is a description of the events with the date according to the chronology of Bishop James Ussher (1581-1656), who calculated that the world was created in 4004 BCE, by working backwards from the Biblical narration of the Nativity. German silver is not actually silver, but an alloy used as a base for silver- plate. It is made of approximately 50% copper, 18% nickel and 32% zinc.
