Geneva Bible, 1560 (Displayed copy, 1595)

This version was produced in Geneva by the Calvinist refugees from persecution in England.It was popular among people in England because it was printed in a portable size and not in Gothic black letter; but it was not approved by the Church because of its Calvinist and anti-clerical footnotes. The King James Version was the attempt to produce and "authorized" version which would overcome these problems.
