A message from the IonE Executive Director, Dr. Jessica Hellmann:
"With its strengths in both sustainability and community engagement, University of Minnesota Duluth is – and has been – a natural fit for IonE. UMD is truly a fertile place to expand our capacity to facilitate world-changing work and partnerships. Within the university, among values and goals truly come alive. I am thrilled to be more formally recognizing this affinity, beginning this year, with the campuses, and with communities."
A message from Sustainability Partners at UMD Campus Lead, Dr. Julie Etterson:
"Regardless of your position at UMD, there is a place for you! As our programs develop on the UMD campus, there will be opportunities for engagement for faculty and staff, graduate and undergraduate students. We will accomplish our sustainability mission in three primary ways:
- Cultivate and support interdisciplinary research for faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students with a special emphasis on community-driven questions
- Provide training to faculty and students to develop leaders with skills to tackle the complex problems of the future
- Foster partnerships between UMD and the community including the business, government, media, and nonprofit sectors
